Awakening and awareness start with your willingness to look within yourself — too often, we look outside of ourselves for the answers that WE possess. The key is in asking the right questions.

  • I don't know how I got here.

  • I don't know why this keeps happening.

  • I've tried...

  • I don't know what else I can do.

Your Journey Awaits

We look outside of ourselves to people and products...but the real road to change starts within.

Getting Prepared

Growth is a process that begins with an understanding of where we are and where we want to go. It is not instantaneous. Becoming aware is the first step.

  • Take your time. True growth is a process.

  • Be patient and gentle with yourself. It's about progress...not perfection.

  • Observe and journal what you learn. I cannot emphasize this enough.

  • Integrate and implement your knowledge. Actions speak louder than words.

Char Aukland

I am a married homeschool mom, an author, a certified personal trainer and a certified health and nutrition coach. I am also a former Army medic with an eclectic background in Occupational Therapy. Of the experiences that have shaped me and my approach, working as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) would top the list. Designing and facilitating coping skills groups on the inpatient psychiatric ward was challenging. The various diagnoses stretched me mentally, emotionally and educationally. I developed a unique insight into the importance of recognizing stressors, developing healthy coping tools, and understanding the challenges we can sometimes face (that can "seem" insurmountable). Another rewarding, impactful and humbling experience was my work with lower extremity amputees returning from the war. This required taking a whole-body approach to healing — looking beyond the obvious physical limitations. Being capable of addressing the mental and emotional aspects, in addition to self-image issues were key in treating the person—not just the injury. Their amazing attitudes, despite their circumstances, showed me the true power of our mindsets. My approach draws from each area of my background — spanning over 20 years. Additionally, my personal history has been especially influential. It includes overcoming weight challenges, disordered eating habits, emotional eating, anxiety, poor coping skills and the loss of a child. I knew that if I were going to thrive and be successful, not just survive and be complacent, I would have to make some changes. Through trial, error, effort and diligence, I was able to grow, develop and achieve lasting victories. The knowledge that I have gained over the years has been invaluable. My certifications are just icing on the cake. Life has taught me more than any book could hope to. You are in good, compassionate and empathetic hands.
